Young people who want to complete an apprenticeship in Germany should first find out in detail what the exact content of the apprenticeship they choose is and whether it is a dual or a school apprenticeship. In the case of dual training, a training contract is concluded with the company in which the practical training is carried out. The trainee receives a monthly training allowance.
In the case of school-based training, as is the case for many occupations in the social and health sector, it must be taken into account that no training allowance is paid as in dual training and that a monthly school fee may be incurred.
Vocational training usually lasts between 2 and 3 years. It should be noted that you have to apply for a place either in a company (dual) or at school in good time - in dual training from October of the previous year.

The first prerequisites for starting the training are a successful completion of school in the home country and the recognition of qualification in the state in which you want to start the training.

Another important requirement is extensive knowledge of German, which corresponds at least to the language level B1, better B2. In some professions (health sector) even C1 is recommended.

Young people from EU countries as well as from Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland can enter Germany and start training without a visa due to the free movement of workers within the EU. Persons from third countries must apply for a corresponding visa in order to be able to enter Germany.

Young people from Europe who do a vocational training can use the Erasmus+-programme to receive a grant for a professional internship in Germany. For this they have to speak to their training company or their vocational school.
